This is the web site for the Springbok Model Boat Club
Springbok Model Boat Club is based at the Springbok Estate in Alfold, Surrey, UK, which is a retirement complex for Merchant Navy seaman. Members have use of the lake in the grounds of the complex, together with use of the social club bar facilities on site.
The weekly sailing takes place on Friday mornings throughout the year, although members may also use the lake at any other time. Tuesday mornings are also becoming a regular sailing time.
Although the majority of members sail R/C yachts, electric power models are also sailed, but no fast electric or internal combustion engined models are allowed.
The club holds occasional races for 650mm maximum class yachts, such as RG65's and the like. Larger yachts can be sailed, but the water depth can be too shallow for IOM or larger yachts in Summer drought conditions.
The club is affiliated to the UK Model Yachting Association and members have third party insurance cover included in their subscriptions.
The club has a weekly model sailing diary which is intended as a guide and members are free to sail any type of model boat (sail or power).
The club is open to all model boaters and new members are welcome on application.
